Shop Tunes: 1.23.15
Excited to share a shop tunes playlist featuring some cool groups from years back: The Elephant 6. If you haven’t heard of them, it is a collective of bands and musicians based out of Athens, GA that in many respects, wrote the book for modern independent musicians. They were pioneers for sure, and a little bit of a ‘slap in the face’ to the music industry paradigm at the time- choosing to do things themselves and by their own methods. A very different way of thinking for the ‘pre-iPod age’. These groups shared musicians, resources, studio time and worked together to bring everyone up. Out of the original six, I must say, there were clear stand outs. But I still have a respect for all of them. I put together a grab-bag of classics from my favorite’s (Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal, Elf Power and The Apples in Stereo). Enjoy!
